Equity Commitment

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are vital components of a strong democracy. At Democracy Works, we know that our work is only as impactful as it is equitable; we can only achieve our mission when we serve all voters.

Though many of us arrived at Democracy Works with an existing commitment to practicing inclusion and equity in our work and in our workplace, we all have room to grow as leaders and allies in this work. Our robust internal DEI education program includes the following:

  • A four-part DEI onboarding series that introduces all new staff to the ideas and vocab they’ll need to engage in conversation about systemic oppression
  • Quarterly skill-building workshops around issues related to DEI and allyship. These sessions help us deepen our understanding of issues related to race, gender, and disability, among other topics
  • Monthly DEI Learning Spaces where we come together for open conversations related to DEI issues such as gentrification, colorism, and accessible design
  • Support for professional development resources that contribute to our understanding of DEI or anti-oppression

To serve all voters, we need to think creatively, innovate, and make effective decisions. And as a BIPOC-led organization with a majority-BIPOC Senior Management Team, we know firsthand that a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace allows us to do our best work. Within Democracy Works, DEI is both a moral imperative and a mission-critical asset.
