Election officials are vital to our democracy. Across the country, state and local officials work around the clock to make our elections secure, transparent, and inclusive, ensuring that every eligible voter can participate. At Democracy Works, we work closely with election officials to help educate and empower voters.
These efforts start with meeting election officials where they are. Earlier this month, Lily Schieber, Democracy Works’s Director of Election Administration, attended a conference held by the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED) in Washington, DC. NASED’s biannual convenings allow election officials, nonprofit organizations, and election technologists to strengthen ties and share election administration best practices.
As the voting landscape evolves rapidly at the state and federal levels, election officials have to stay ahead of changes that affect voters. NASED’s conference provided a forum for stakeholders to discuss timely voting issues, from citizenship verification procedures to potential mail ballot processing delays. Ahead of consequential elections this year, attendees confronted challenges and shared solutions, united by a mission to uphold the law and effectively serve voters.
February’s conference also gave Schieber the chance to showcase how Democracy Works is prepared to support both voters and election offices in 2026 and beyond. “It’s really invaluable to get in front of these folks face-to-face and connect. NASED’s conference is another opportunity to remind election officials who we are and how we can help them in their work,” Schieber said.
Over two days of sessions, Schieber connected with election officials from several states. She uplifted the Voting Information Project, a Democracy Works program that partners with election offices to distribute official voting information at scale. Schieber also boosted TurboVote and the Elections API, our voter engagement solutions that deliver comprehensive election information. Across these conversations, her message was clear: we’re here to help.
Amid constant political and legal developments, the demands facing election administrators aren’t slowing down—but neither is the network of experts who are adapting to these changes. From NASED meetings to Election Day, Democracy Works is proud to be part of the infrastructure powering our elections.
